Overview

The Nafis programme is being overhauled: Emiratis earning below Dhs6,000 a month face a phased reduction of benefits. Phase 1 (September 2026–February 2027) keeps full benefits; Phase 2 (March–August 2027) cuts 30%; Phase 3 (September–November 2027) cuts 70%; then support ends entirely in January 2028.

At the same time, new family benefits were announced: no cap on the child allowance, and up to Dhs3,000 a month in spouse and child-of-Emirati-mother support.

Use the calculator below to see exactly how the phase-out affects your household, month by month — and read the guide for what to do before each phase.

Frequently asked questions

Who is affected by the phase-out?
Emiratis earning below Dhs6,000/month, mainly in the private sector.
When do benefits end completely?
January 2028, after the three reduction phases.
Are there new benefits too?
Yes — uncapped child allowance and up to Dhs3,000/mo spouse/child support were announced alongside.
Is this a government website?
No. This is an independent guide.
Which salaries are affected by the phase-out?
Emiratis earning below Dhs6,000 a month, mainly in the private sector. The phased reductions — 30% from March 2027 and 70% from September 2027 — apply to that group before support ends in January 2028. Higher earners are on different arrangements, so check your own category on the official portal.
I work in the public sector — does the phase-out apply to me?
The phase-out targets private-sector employees earning below Dhs6,000 a month. Public-sector staff are on different employment terms. If you are unsure which category covers you, confirm your status on the official Nafis portal before making any plans.
I'm unemployed — what happens to my Nafis support?
The announced phase-out concerns employed Emiratis below the Dhs6,000 threshold. Job-seeker allowances are separate programmes with their own rules. If you are looking for work, check the unemployment insurance scheme and Nafis job-matching services, which continue to operate.
How much is the new child allowance?
The government announced that the cap on the child allowance is being removed, meaning support grows with the number of children rather than stopping at a maximum. The exact per-child amount was not fixed in the announcement — confirm the current figure on the official Nafis portal.
How do I apply for the new family benefits?
The new spouse and child-of-Emirati-mother support — up to Dhs3,000 a month — was announced alongside the phase-out, and applications will almost certainly be separate. Register and apply on the official Nafis portal, and do not pay intermediaries who claim they can fast-track your application.
Does the phase-out affect my pension or end-of-service benefits?
No. The phase-out concerns Nafis employment support for low-income private-sector workers, not pension entitlements or end-of-service gratuities. Those are governed by separate social insurance rules and are not part of this announcement.
What should I do before each phase starts?
Work out your household budget with the month-by-month calculator on this page, so you see exactly when each cut lands. Use Phase 1 (full benefits until February 2027) to build savings, explore the new family benefits, and discuss upskilling or salary growth with your employer.
